Abstract

The rapid advancement of information and communication technologies has significantly transformed the functioning of modern libraries. Traditional manual library operations are increasingly being replaced by automated and cloud-based systems that improve efficiency, accessibility, and resource management. Library automation refers to the application of technology to perform routine library tasks such as cataloging, circulation, acquisitions, inventory control, and patron management. This paper examines the role of library automation systems and Integrated Library Systems (ILS) in enhancing library services and operational effectiveness. It also explores the growing importance of cloud-based library management software in providing scalable, secure, and user-friendly services for both librarians and patrons. The study highlights major benefits including reduced workload, improved accuracy, centralized data management, remote accessibility, enhanced patron satisfaction, and automation of repetitive tasks. Furthermore, the paper discusses the challenges faced by libraries without modern technological integration and provides important considerations for selecting suitable library management software. The findings suggest that adopting automation and cloud technologies is essential for libraries to remain relevant in the digital era and to effectively meet the evolving information needs of users. The study concludes that modern automated and cloud-enabled library systems are not merely technological upgrades but strategic tools that support innovation, digital inclusion, and improved knowledge dissemination in contemporary libraries.
